During the past two or so years, Gilly’s on Rockville Pike picked up a great reputation for their beer selection, sandwiches, cool owners, and 6 taps from which to drink while you shop. They also have lots of specials, like buy two six-packs and get a cool pint glass. Pint glasses are awesome, who doesn’t like them? And to top it all off, Gilly’s is also right next to the amazing Urban BBQ, which doesn’t hurt. Basically, it’s a really cool place.
But I think it’s on the way out and that sucks. I came by today and was shocked to the point of laughter by the prices. $22 for a bottle of Ruination? I can think of 5 places off the top of my head where I can find that for $7-9. $16, $17, $18 for 6packs of stuff like Dead Guy and Red Seal. Seriously. Seriously?

Really? Is that in 2020 dollars? It smacks of desperation…why do you do that unless you’re desperate for fast cash and hope the people walking in your door don’t know better. I’d love to put my Mark McGwire rookie on Ebay for $500, but I get reality and know that ain’t happening.
Also, lets take a look into their fridge and try to figure out what’s going on in there. Those empty shelves are scary. It looks more like a store opening before they are ready than a successful two-year old shop.

Finally, one good note — their taps. I tried the Lancaster Boss Hog, an impressive 2IPA from Pennsylvania I hadn’t tried before. It’s strong at 10% but that alcohol doesn’t hit you like overly-hopped 2IPAs do sometimes. I’d definitely drink it again and think it’s a huge improvement from Lancaster’s Hop Hog IPA.
Here’s to hoping I totally misinterpreted the signage!
